The Daily Show Wrap-Up: Here's What Happened In January 2017
January 5th: A Farewell Address from President Obama's Anger Translator
Dropping into The Daily Show for the second time in three months (his last appearance was on the super depressing election night show), your boy Keegan-Michael Key kicked off 2017 by making his final appearance as President Obama's anger translator, Luther alongside co-star Jordan Peele. A great start to what is probably going to be a pretty weird year.
January 9th: Trump vs. The Truth - The Russian Hacking Report
After Meryl Streep called out Donald Trump for making fun of a disabled reporter during his campaign, the President-Elect responded via Twitter by completely denying any wrongdoing. But... the weird thing is, there's actually footage of him doing it. Similarly, when the entire American intelligence community released a report agreeing that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, Trump tweeted that intelligence stated there was no evidence of this. Wait, what?
January 17th: President Obama Babyproofs America
In his last days as President, Barack Obama was busy trying to cement his legacy and working on the transistion to President Trump. Trevor, however, couldn't help but notice that it felt less like a transfer of power, and more like Obama was babyproofing America, with last-ditch efforts to protect the environment, downsize Guantanamo Bay and address police bias.
January 17th: The Trump Inauguration's No-Star Lineup
In another fantastic 'Back In Black' rant, Lewis Black suggests that so many celebrities died in 2016 to get out of playing at the inauguration. Black takes a look at the lackluster guest list for President-elect Trump's inauguration, and looks forward to "when Trump touches the bible and his hand catches on fire!"
January 20th: The Inauguration Of Donald Trump
As Donald Trump finally becomes President, Trevor wraps up the inauguration, comparing it to a Disney movie when the villain gets the upper hand. We take a closer look at poor Michelle Obama's facial expressions, and Trevor ends the segment with a strange but endearing musical number.
January 23rd: Trump Inauguration vs. Women's March on Washington
The Daily Show experienced both the inauguration and the Women's March first-hand, so why not compare? Jordan Klepper asked Donald Trump supporters for reassurance at the inauguration, and Desi Lydic donned her pussy hat and found out why women were protesting the new administration.
January 23rd: The Trump Administration's "Alternative Facts"
Let's never forget when Kellyanne Conway introduced us to "alternative facts", and because we're probably going to hear a lot more "alternative facts" for the next four years, Desi Lydic tries to find a new way to check claims made by the Trump administration. Frankly, we're confused.
January 25th: President Trump Takes (Executive) Action
Trevor reacts to Donald Trump starting his Presidency with a flurry of executive orders, including one to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, and another to ban immigrants from Muslim-majority countries (both of which have gone down SUPER well, as you may know). Trump has also signed papers to declare his inauguration day as a 'National Day of Patriotic Devotion', which Trevor likens to "being forced the celebrate the anniversary of the first time we tried anal ... Happy Anal-versary, people!"
And with that, we're pretty much up to speed. Obama is gone, Donald Trump lives in an alternate universe and people are very angry. Can't wait to see what February brings!
