What You Shouldn’t Get Your Valentine
Flowers, chocolate, a card, jewelry… these are all O.K. ideas for gifts. But if you’re trying to be unique, you need to realise there are boundaries. Stay away from the following items:
Soap is a terrible idea. What are you trying to say? They smell? Even if they do smell… there are more subtle ways of communicating that. Also, you can just spray them with deodorant until they ask: Hey, what’s up? This goes for any hygiene product…
A Years Worth Of Frozen Pizza
Just because you like pizza, doesn’t mean they will like pizza. Sure, a years worth of frozen pizza is pretty great… they won’t need to worry about what they’ll have for dinner ever again (a year). And neither will you… but that’s exactly why this is a terrible idea. They’ll think you’re just trying to get out of cooking something special for them that isn’t frozen pizza.
A Wedding Ring
A wedding ring is a good idea if you’re actually planning on proposing to them. Otherwise, giving them a wedding ring is confusing, hurtful and expensive. If you do still intend on going ahead with getting them this gift, be prepared to commit to marrying them or falling back on the excuse that you were weirdly giving them a wedding ring shaped piece of jewellry which only symbolises short term commitment.
A DVD Player
Why would you get someone a DVD player as a valentine's day gift?
Don’t give them this mug. It’s a strange gift, it’s also a shit mug. It may not look like it, but it’s leaking. Also, this mug would make a terrible gift because it doesn’t actually belong to you… they might have a thing for mugs but this one is a really bad one. We highly recommend you don’t get them this mug.
Expressing your love for someone through material items can be a thoughtful and fun way of celebrating Valentine's Day. But as long as you’re smart and you avoid the above items at all costs, there’s no way you can go wrong… unless of course you buy them something lame.
