Dad Turns Car Around During Family Trip To Avoid Cliché
While driving up the coast on a family holiday. Steven Arnold, 45, of Castle Hill had had enough and felt he needed to make a statement. As his kids continued to badger him about the trip, Mr. Stevens kept getting more and more agitated. The kids asked about stopping for fast food, asked mind-numbing questions starting with the word ‘why?’ and for about 73 minutes simply made fart sounds.
The father of two warned his kids that if they didn’t be quiet, he would turn the car around and drive back home. Twelve year old Michael then got the brilliant idea to ask his father the question “Are we there yet?” insisting his father had initiated a cliché by saying he would turn the car around. When 8 year old Joseph copied his brother, a chorus of “are we there yet?” began. It was at this point Mr Stevens literally turned the car around and headed home.
“Kids these days know that their parents are mostly full of empty threats, and those little brats were testing me with that goddamn question - are we there yet… I kept warning them. And eventually I thought, you know what? I paid for this god damn trip, I’m going to throw the money away and prove a point.”
Mr. Arnold, who had taken annual leave for the trip feels that it was the right decision.
“Fun family holidays will always be there, and there’s plenty of time to make new memories which will last a lifetime, but warning my kids about the dangers of calling my bluff has long lasting benefits.”
Patricia Stevens, 41, the mother in the family, was more outraged by the impulsive teachings of her husband.
“I had to take annual leave, it’s just as much my trip as it is his or the kids… they’re all children in my opinion. What kind of person tries to prove a point because they’re scared of being a cliché? I mean are we on a TV show? Where are the cameras?... I’m getting a divorce.”
