Why Chef Matthias From The Latest Aunty Donna “Short Film” Is Not Your Everyday Celebrity Chef…
By now you’ve hopefully seen the latest sketch (Chef Matthias) from Aunty Donna’s series: Trendy. Cooking is very trendy, and the people who are most trendy in the world of food are the celebrity chefs we all seem to like for no apparent reason.
For the most part, these chefs are successful because they have a special x-factor on screen and a philosophy to boot. Which brings us to Chef Matthias. Could Chef Matthias ever be a celebrity chef like Jamie, Nigella or Heston? Not exactly, here are some reasons why:
Chef Matthias has a talking oyster as an assistant:
This raises various questions, which can best be explained by the fact that Chef Matthias is a character in an absurd comedy sketch. However, even if he were a real chef… a talking oyster would alienate a large part of middle Australia as well as those supermarket fat cats keen to endorse the next trendy chef.
Chef Matthias’ reality seems to be governed by forces outside his control and it seems he can travel to space:
This is pretty self-explanatory.
Chef Matthias is now probably dead due to blood loss:
Unless he’s some kind of non-human being (which he probably is) or in some kind of semi-conscious state due to severe blood loss. Chef Matthias could very well be dead.
Which brings us to our verdict: Chef Matthias is not your everyday celebrity chef and never will be. He can make a pork belly thing out of a pork belly piece of shit, but a cooking show he will not have… unless it’s on Comedy Central.
If you’re yet to see Chef Matthias, then the above examples would have been pretty confusing to scroll through. That’s okay, check out the sketch here:
