Hope you’re enjoying your lunch, because it’s time for your daily dose of The Daily Show, and it’s a big one! This episode, the minds behind "Making a Murder" sit down with Trevor and give a unique take on their experience making the series from start to finish

An interesting revelation that came out was that Ken Kratz tried to subpoena the footage they had after he was approached by the film makers during the making of the documentary. The claim by Kratz was that Demos and Ricciardi were an investigative arm of the defence in the subsequent case.

Trevor’s interview also explores the genesis of the series. The two filmmakers decided to take on the project while finishing up graduate film studies at Colombia University after seeing a headline in the New York Times about Steven Avery. According to Demos, they felt:

“His story would be this incredible window through which to look at our justice system”

It was this scrutiny of the justice system that was the objective with the film. Although the Steven Avery case has become the talking point around the series, the film makers are clear that their intentions with the series was to highlight that the US Justice system has a long way to go.

Trevor admits he, like everyone else, has been shouting at his screen while watching the show. More importantly, he does highlight that since the story around the show has become about innocence vs. lack of innocence, this in a way wasn’t the original intention of Demos and Ricciardi.

This episode also has Trevor look at the two presidential debates and give some solid arguments for why the debates should be combined.

Also, make sure you check out What the Actual Facts? for some very excellent truth bombs from the Daily Show team… ‘Sean Penn’ is now an actual rating.
